THE MOST AMAZING DOCUMENTARY EVER pt. 2

For some unknown reason, Blogger won't let me type stuff in with the video below this. However, this is what I had to say originally.

Rip: A Remix Manifesto.

Now, as you may or may not know, I don't blog on the weekends. But this is something that had to be shared. The Documentary deals with Intellectual Property, Copyrights, and Downloading. By far, one of the best films I've seen in ages.

Want a taste? See previous post for part 3 of the film.

To view the rest of the documentary, click here and check out www.opensourcecinema.org for more information about the film

J*DaVeY _ New joints.

New newness.  How new?  Well...that's of little consequence. You need this in your life.  No idea who J*DaVeY is?  Peep the official. For those in the know, though, I bring three tracks. You know the routine; click the links, jack the tracks, cheer the ears.

iFEEL [My personal favorite.]

Enjoy.

Vid: 88-Keys (feat. Kanye West) _ "Stay Up! (Viagra)"

If you haven't peeped 88-Keys' The Death of Adam, now would be the time to do so.  Dope video and concept. Peep the cameo from Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. All the prosthetic makeup done by Tony Gardner [known for doing the work on MJ's "Thriller", Shallow Hal, and various Daft Punk projects].

What?  Why yes, that is a sample:

You're welcome.

Jack White has ANOTHER band.

Jack White of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs is forming another band called The Dead Weather. The lineup is as follows:  Jack White (vocals, drums, and guitar), Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs (bass), Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age (guitar) and The Raconteurs (keyboard during 2006 tour), and Alison Mosshart of The Kills (vocals). Pretty psyched to hear White on the drums.

Oh!  I bring you tunes as well.  Their first single is entitled "Hang You from the Heavens".  Clickity.

For another joint, peep the official.

McMahon.

Vid: Handsome Furs _ "I'm Confused"

Handsome Furs, is a side project for Wolf Parade's Dan Boeckner and his girlfriend Alexi Perry.  Their album, Face Control, is in stores now.  Word to wise: The video is very much NSFW. [That's N.ot S.afe F.or W.ork, for all you Web 1.0-ers.]  Directed by Scott Coffey.

Vid: Young Jeezy _ "Circulate"

Probably my new favorite music video as of right now. Jeezy steps out the box a little with this one. Who said music videos are dead? Directed by Terry Richardson. [<~~~Peep the official.] Apparently, Belvedere Vodka [yes, it's in the video] is setting up an ad campaign with the two of them entitled [surprise] "Circulate".

You'd love to know what that sample is, I'm sure. Peep:

Oh, but it's been sampled before:

AND:

9th's joint kinda trumps Dilla's cut, as much as I'd hate to say it. But I do like Don Cannon's loop job [that the Jeezy cut] overall.

New Ad Space: Mickey Factz x Honda

Hipster rapper Mickey Factz gets tapped to do a spot for the Honda Accord:

It's...not bad. In fact, whoever they have in the Marketing department who even knows who Factz is gets my respect. My only complaint is that I get the feeling Honda's getting more out of this than Mickey. If it was A-list artist, such as Common, Snoop, etc., then they would be able to benefit more from the deal, being established artists. But I doubt that Honda is going to take the steps necessary to get Factz that exposure. In fact, anyone who doesn't know who he is will probably assume that he's just a character created by Honda's think tank. Did they even drop a link for his website, at the very least? [Peep the official, by the way.] Nope; they did, however, manage to offer a link for their own campaign. They tried, but...is that enough?

McMahon.

Vid: Calvin Harris _ "I'm Not Alone"

I'm a pretty avid fan of house/electro music. I somehow stumbled upon Calvin Harris's debut album, I Created Disco [arrogant, yes, I know] last year, and it's been a mainstay in my rotation ever since. This is the first single for his yet-to-be-titled sophomore effort. It's not great, but it serves its purpose. Video's a little weird.

For those wanting to become more familiar with Harris, here's everything you need to know:

I recommend "Merrymaking at My Place", "Acceptable in the 80's", and "The Girls". Everything else is just filler.

More info and treats found at his site. Peep the official.

Hope you enjoy.

Film Short: World Builder

A strange man builds a world using holographic tools for the woman he loves.

This award winning short was created by filmmaker Bruce Branit. World Builder was shot in a single day followed by about 2 years [!!!] of post production. Branit is the owner of Branit VFX [peep the official], a visual effects firm based in Kansas City.

Here's another short of his, 405:

Chances are, you're pretty familiar with Branit's work, whether or not you realize it:

Vid: Rick Ross (feat. John Legend) _ "Magnificent"

I'm a fan of Rick Ross. Yes, I'm aware that he did time...as a correctional officer. And yes, I know 50 has made it a priority to body his career. But...I don't know. I like his output. This is no exception. Mind you, I don't think it was the best choice for his first single, but...we'll see. John Legend undersells himself a little, but there's only so much you can do on a Ross joint. That's a badass checkered tie he's rocking in the beginning, though. The concept for the video was fairly original; you don't see ninjas investing in horse racing often, if ever. Peep the Bacardi Limon plug, also. If I wasn't already a fan [and believe me, I am], then I'd be sold.

And...in case that song sounds familiar to you:

You're welcome.

Luda x The Roots @ Jimmy Fallon

Because apparently, no one told you that Illadelph's finest was Fallon's new house band. Peep the switch between songs, and the live redux of "I Do it For Hip-Hop" is noteworthy. And yes, that is a tuba player you see.

You know this our first time posting on The Roots? Interesting; seems they would've been on here by now...

McMahon...

Seriously, if you can look like this...

...then why are you wasting our time singing and acting?

The Knowles sisters are now doing ads for Japanese line Samantha Thavasa [peep the official]. If you see them on MTV, however, hit the mute button, and enjoy the show.

Vid: Musiq Soulchild - "So Beautiful"

OK, I'm not usually huge on Soulchild. Don't get me wrong, he's a decent artist, but he tends to play it too safe for my liking. His most recent effort, though? Definitely throws that out the window. This is dude's ballsiest album since SoulStar, and I banged that one pretty hard. [That's what she said. *ahem*] Perfect example of this would be his third single "sobeautiful". It's pretty dope; I'd usually make a more in-depth account, but...don't want to spoil it for you. Peep the video. And if you haven't bought/borrowed/stole Onmyradio yet, you shouldn't even be wasting time reading this.

Simply because we don't blog about Prince often enough...

Dropping a triple disc joint, exclusively online and at Target. Clickity for more info.

McMahon...

Since Bouier enjoys the original joint so much...

...figured he'd love the remix, with Teairra Mari.

You like Mari, don't you, Bouier? Don'tcha?

Clickity. [or the pic, of course.]

McMahon...

Where am I finding all these new artist from?

Ladies and Germs, please meet Mayer Hawthorne. The newest artist on the Stones Throw Label. You know, the label responsible for bringing you hit from Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib, etc. Well, this guy doesn't rap...but he croons so soulfully. Something is just so dope about this guy's faux falsetto to me...Anyway, he hails from Ann Arbor, MI and is influenced by Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, and Barry White; among others. The kid is a beast in my opinion...oH, where is the clickity? Well, if you've never been here, click on the above image. Or, Here. That is the lead single, "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out," as remixed by Astronote. For additional music, check out his Myspace Page.

One day, you'll thank me.

Introducing...

The Cinematics

The band is originally from Scotland, currently based in Ireland. If you haven't noticed by now, I'm into the whole Post-Punk Revival/Indie scene. This song, as well as many of their others, captures that sound perfectly and effortlessly. The song above is entitled "Keep Forgetting;" No it is not a homage to the Michael McDonald song...however, that joint is in fact funky. It is available on the bands album, A Strange Education.

Bonus....? Sure, why not.

How's that make you feel? In case you don't know what song sampled this...kill yourself.

Kanye @ VH1 [Audio]

I...warned you not to miss this.  It was fairly dope, save for the moments when Kanye chose to speak.  But you expected that, right?  Right.  You can still catch the individual performances at VH1.  It's really worth watching; the setup was designed by Martin Phillips, the man responsible for the Glow in the Dark tour, the last Daft Punk tour, and the latest Nine Inch Nails tour.  All the band members and backup singers had on weird Deft Punk-esque outfits and helmets.  Audio?  Told you I find it, and in decent quality, no less.  But enough talk.  Click the pic.  It's worth it, really.  Now if you'll excuse me, there's some swag on my DVR I need to delete...

Sidenote: If you haven't heard of/bought/downloaded Late Orchestration, make that a priority.
