The Kickdrums - Just a Game

Behold, hip-hop production team The Kickdrums. Yeah, that's right, didn't know they were Caucasoids, did you? That's OK. In any event, they just realized a non hip-hop EP, Just a Game, on your internet, for the free. Well...not entirely non hip-hop; the influence is certainly there. Two parts indie, one part downtempo, with a Sunday afternoon feel. Think Chester French, but without the electro smugness.

Jack White has ANOTHER band.

Jack White of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs is forming another band called The Dead Weather. The lineup is as follows:  Jack White (vocals, drums, and guitar), Jack Lawrence of The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs (bass), Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age (guitar) and The Raconteurs (keyboard during 2006 tour), and Alison Mosshart of The Kills (vocals). Pretty psyched to hear White on the drums.

Oh!  I bring you tunes as well.  Their first single is entitled "Hang You from the Heavens".  Clickity.

The band is originally from Scotland,currently based in Ireland. If you haven't noticed by now, I'm into the whole Post-Punk Revival/Indie scene. This song, as well as many of their others, captures that sound perfectly and effortlessly. The song above is entitled "Keep Forgetting;" No it is not a homage to the Michael McDonald song...however, that joint is in fact funky. It is available on the bands album, A Strange Education.

Chester French EP...

Yes, the She Loves Everybody EP from Chester French drops today on iTunes. Don't want it on iTunes? Don't worry; drops on the 18th everywhere else. Of course every other blog has been dropping the condom media player widget, which allows to sample the album. Keyword: sample.

Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy, dropped a cover of "Love Lockdown" a few days prior.  Has some extra [read: rock] instrumentation, and gives it a little extra flavor.  Sadly, it's a little better than any of the versions that Kanye's dropped so far.  By "better", of course, I mean "easier on the ears".  I give it 3.5 on the Shrug Scale.  Click the pic.

"If You Talk Too Much, My Head Will Explode", directed by Joaquin Phoenix

The indie quintet hails from Wales [+5 GFN Points for pointless rhyming]. Initallly being compared to Radiohead [not always in a good way], they offer a mellow, alternative sound, at times bordering on the progressive. Their first album, As Far As the Eye Can See, dropped back in '06, featuring the above video as their first single. Two years later, they return to the scene. Peep the cover art:

Like? Good, for I bring more. I give thee the first official single from the new album, "Mayday (M'aidez)". It's a pretty nice track, not quite uptempo, and a little edgier than their earlier work. Bone apple teat.
